We offer a wide range of experiences of gathering kai moana. Join us and let us show you what Kaikoura has to offer by gathering sustainably while respecting our coastline.
Kaikoura is an abundant coastline but requires balance. We have set our in-house terms with catching kai moana to ensure we can continue gathering with respect in the future. Our goal is to educate and inform you of the benefits and do's/don'ts of gathering.

Our Terms and Rules:

We are not freezer fillers. Our tours are about the experience of gathering in Kaikoura. If the tour is successful you should have enough for a dinner or two. We respect the rules in place and operate our tours with a catch limit per person.

We love being out there doing it but to respect the ocean we only operate one gathering tour a day.

You will have a guide with you and they do not gather for you. It is you that will be responsible for gathering your kai moana. The guide will be there to ensure that you are doing it correctly and aiming for the correct species.

We always respect the environment. Undersize and wrongful catch is not what we want. We do not go for everything and anything. We have a set list of target species and ensure that you know what to look for in the species when gathering.

You must be fit and able to snorkel/swim the coastline is wild and rough. Our tours are not courses. If you are new do not worry we have set different options to meet different levels of experience! If you are unsure about your ability get in contact and we can look at what is best for you.

When using spearguns they pose a risk to harm. You must be able to pass our speargun safety check quiz before a spearfishing tour. If you are deemed unsafe by us we hold the right of refusal due too safety reasons. If you are new to spearfishing you may want to look at the basic spearfishing option or get in contact with us and discuss how we can get you amongst it!
