Health and Safety

Safety is an integral part of our organization at Daves' Diving. We are committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for the health, safety and welfare of our staff, customers, contractors, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our workplace activities. 

We are committed to safety performances by reference to the following objectives:

  • Complying with relevant work health and safety legislation and any relevant standards or codes of practice.

  • Adopting a proactive, risk assessment and elimination or control of those hazards.

  • Providing and maintaining premises that are safe and without risk to health.

  • Promoting a safe and healthy work environment for employees.

  • Facilitating consultation and co-operation between management, employees and other businesses in achieving these objectives. 

  • Providing such information, instruction, training and supervision as may be necessary to ensure our employees' health and safety at work.

  • Providing and maintaining safe systems.

  • Providing adequate information and induction on safety to visitors, ensuring their safety.

  • Accurately record and report all incidents.

  • Require all staff to take personal responsibility for safety.

Health and Safety

All our excursions involve time spent on or in the water. Our skippers, instructors, divemasters, and staff are all certified in first aid. Our boats and vehicles are equipped with first aid kits and oxygen for emergencies. We request that you disclose any medical conditions before participating in our activities.

Acknowledgement of Risks

By booking a trip with us, you acknowledge and accept that diving and snorkelling carry inherent risks and potential hazards. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Marine traffic

  • Marine life

  • Decompression sickness and illness

  • Barotrauma

  • Air embolism

  • Gas narcosis

  • Ear Problems

  • Equipment malfunction

  • Sun damage

  • Hyperthermia and hypothermia

  • Sea sickness - Drowning

  • Adverse weather conditions and natural disasters

 

Our diving and snorkelling trips occur in the open ocean, exposing participants to possible sudden natural disasters such as extreme weather changes, high winds, tsunamis, earthquakes, slips, landslides, or rock falls. By completing your booking, you acknowledge that participating in the activities offered by Dave's Diving Kaikoura can be hazardous if not conducted with care, control, and responsibility. You accept the risks, which could result in physical or mental injury or death.
